Despite the rain and strong winds, we drove to Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania, at the site of the former Scranton yards of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. The site has wonderfully interactive displays detailing the birth and history of the steam engine locomotive. From the Visitor Center you can walk through history and get a very good idea of what it was like to work for the railroads, how the engines were built, and even, at the end, climb up into one of the display engines and ring the bell.
