Kenya: Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha, a serene freshwater lake nestled in the southern Rift Valley, is framed by picturesque acacia woodlands. Our focus here was capturing the thrilling sight of African Fish Eagles swooping down to catch fish. We spent several hours aboard small boats, four to a vessel, as our skilled drivers navigated the vast waters, bringing us closer to the action. At one point, we witnessed pelicans getting in on the action and an eagle just missing a fish caught by the pelicans.

We also had the unexpected pleasure of spotting a few land mammals, descendants of animals originally brought in for the filming of Out of Africa, the iconic movie starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. These creatures have since made the area their home, adding an interesting historical layer to the wildlife experience at Lake Naivasha.
